Viola Nix, 89, of Spotsylvania County, passed away January 21 at Mary Washington Hospital.
She was born July 7, 1923, in Rison, Arkansas. After graduating from Rison High School, she graduated from the University of Toledo. She worked as an elementary school teacher in the Toledo public school district until her retirement.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; former husband Ulysses S. Nix; brother Timothy; and two sisters, Eva and Willie Mae.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Bern Nix of New York and Rick Nix of Michigan; one daughter, Edna "Mike" Nix of Spotsylvania; three grandchildren, Noel Collier-Nix, Cydni Nix-Brown, and Johnte Hayden; two great-grandchildren, Shakiyah Diggs and Alicia Alberta-Mae Cook; a beloved daughter-in-law, Tracy Collier-Nix of Michigan; godson Cornell Pendleton; and other nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 1, at A. L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home, 200 Butternut Drive, Fredericksburg. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 2, at the funeral home.
